Took the red eye to Spain; Meeting with our Tennis Director, Robert Edwards, as he is entering his 12th year at Camp Towanda! His department this year is once again above and beyond, they are the warm-up crew for Wimbledon (no joke) and the campers from Madrid are just so excited to return (as well as the first year kids are happy, dare I say “loco”, about Camp Towanda)! Soon to be friends and part of the great Camp Towanda family 2011.
MAKE-A-WISH
Always a pleasure to support MAKE-A-WISH, today is the WINES & WISHES fundraiser at Chelsea Piers in NYC.
Dove Beauty
We recently had the privilege of meeting with Jess Weiner at our camp conference. She has a fabulous website and feel it is a great connection for girls to help them with self esteem and stress related concerns. Check out: http://www.jessweiner.com

Snow Melt
Can definitely sense that summer is approaching…Mitch is at camp today organizing our maintenance crew and working on the finishing touches of some great winter projects.
TEEN LEADERSHIP
Several of our LITs & CITs are attending The Teen LEADership Conference on Sunday April 3, 2011 at the Bank Street College of Education in NYC.
They will be honing their decision making, youth development and life at camp skills. We are very proud that they want to do this; only to make themselves and camp better!
Lovin’ to learn!
It is has been a great educational month for us at Camp Towanda; in early March we participated in several camp meetings and discussions; last week our Senior Staff attended the American Camp Association Conference in Atlantic City; this week our Caretaker is at a Maintenance Conference in upstate New York. All in preparation for a safe and rewarding summer, just about 90 days away!!
Learning and Sharing at the Tri-State Camp Conference
We are at the Tri-State Camp Conference this week in Atlantic City. You can BET that we are learning and sharing; all towards enhancing and improving the Camp Towanda program.
Four Day Meeting
The directors of camp towanda just returned from a 4 day meeting of discussions regarding enhancing the involvement, attention and care our staff has with the campers and directors. Communication is important; it fortifies trust and comfort which translates into taking on healthy challenges, appropriately going out of one’s comfort zone as well as fun, friendship and positive experiences. This is what Camp Towanda is about. Next stop, the American Camp Association’s Camp Conference

RACE TO NOWHERE
Stephanie & Mitch viewed RACE TO NOWHERE, a documentary that emphasizes the “over the top” demands, push and pressures our society has perhaps inadvertently instilled in the current generation.
Although a good point and certainly a “hopeful” reality check that it is okay for kids to be kids and that they do not have to have lived their life to the ultimate fullest before they even grow up and can just have simple experiences; we can’t say that we 100% agree with all of it.
For instance, some homework is good…. Certainly not 5 hours a night; but a regular homework assignment or review provides the opportunity to enhance one’s sense of discipline, responsibility and focus.
We certainly recommend that parents watch this documentary; if nothing else, hopeful it creates positive awareness.
For more information, visit: http://www.racetonowhere.com. The good news is that life at Camp Towanda is like the way life should be or used to be!
At camp, we all live in this great community, are on the same page, not chasing our tails, not hiding behind a keyboard or plugged in. We interact face-to-face, play, learn, respect and appreciate the time we have.
Such an opportunity! Such a privilege! Camp Towanda is continuing education; but not stuff you can learn in a classroom or by hanging at home.
